The Kansas Fights Addiction Grant Review Board is accepting applications for the KFA Responsive Grant Program (RGP), starting Aug. 31, after lifting a temporary pause of the funding opportunity during which the board assessed the program, clarified its intent, and refined eligibility criteria.
The RGP is a rapid response grant opportunity that provides one-time funding to address short-term, immediate, and time-sensitive needs that benefit the substance use disorder (SUD) system at the local or state level. It is intended to support opportunities when waiting for standard funding cycles could result in missed chances to leverage other funds, create significant risks, or cause adverse consequences.
Applications will be accepted year-round, with quarterly grant reviews in March, June, September and December. The amount of grant funding available will be determined annually by the board. The board has allocated $3 million for the RGP for calendar year 2026. KFA funding comes from money recovered by the Kansas Attorney General’s Office through opioid legal settlements. Sunflower Foundation serves as the administrator for the KFA grant program.
No applications have been accepted since the RGP was paused on July 10. Applications submitted before that date will be considered at the board’s September meeting.
Applications must be submitted no later than 4 p.m. CT on the day three weeks prior to each review date to be considered for funding in that quarter. Any application received after that time will be reviewed at the following quarterly review. The application deadline for the next quarterly review in December is Nov. 20. Future dates for quarterly reviews will be posted on the KFA web page.
Eligibility is limited to state entities, municipalities, nonprofit entities, and for-profit entities that provide SUD-related services in Kansas. To be eligible, organizations must show documented proof that they have been established and providing SUD-related services in Kansas for at least three years.
