Gabrielle Talavera foundation’s new program associate

Sunflower Foundation has a new program associate, but she’s not new to the foundation.

Gabrielle Talavera, who has been a familiar face around the Sunflower Nonprofit Center since joining our team as a student intern in December 2021, recently graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor’s in Community Health and minors in Health Information Management and Human Sexuality.

After taking a short break after graduation, Gabrielle started working full time with the foundation on May 30 as a program associate. In that role, she provides daily assistance and administrative support to the program department and connected areas, working collaboratively with foundation staff, grantees, partners and stakeholders.

Born and raised in Prairie Village, Kan., Gabrielle assisted in all areas of operations as an intern for the foundation while simultaneously working toward her degree at KU.

While at KU, she served as a member of the Jayhawks Rising Health & Wellness Committee, where she collaborated with students and administrators to improve and develop health initiatives on campus. She also acted as an undergraduate research assistant, supporting Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health and LiveWell Douglas County in tobacco policy workgroup efforts. For her work in the Lawrence community, KU named her the recipient of the Don Henry Health Education award in 2021 and 2023.
