Medicaid expansion both a health care and economic issue

Foundation joins hundreds in support of Medicaid expansion

Sunflower Foundation recently joined hundreds of Medicaid expansion proponents across Kansas who provided written testimony in support of SB 355 and HB 2556, both of which received committee hearings in the Kansas Legislature on March 20. The hearings were the first in four years.

Billie Hall, president and CEO of Sunflower Foundation, also presented oral testimony, bringing a new voice and message about the potential economic impact of Medicaid expansion. She presented results of a recent statewide public opinion poll commissioned by the foundation that showed 83% of Kansas small business owners surveyed support Medicaid expansion.

Small businesses are essential to the Kansas economy, and many cannot afford health insurance for their workforce. Access to affordable health care is critical to the health and wellbeing of Kansas workers, and a healthier, more productive workforce strengthens communities and fuels the state’s economy.
