Director Sterling, Event Manager Lopez form new team at Nonprofit Center

Director Tami Sterling, left, and Event Manager Maria Lopez recently were promoted into their roles and now form the new leadership team at the Sunflower Nonprofit Center.

Sunflower Foundation is pleased to announce its new Sunflower Nonprofit Center team, with the promotions of Tami Sterling to director and Maria Lopez to event manager.

Sterling, who started with the foundation in October 2022 as the nonprofit center’s associate director, was promoted to director in August after the departure of former director Tiffany Fisher. Lopez, who had worked as a member of the nonprofit center’s event staff since November 2022, was promoted to her new role earlier this month.

“We are excited about this team and their commitment to serving and providing the best experience for Kansas nonprofits using the Sunflower Nonprofit Center,” said Billie Hall, President and CEO of Sunflower Foundation.

Tami oversees the operations of the Sunflower Nonprofit Center, including developing and maintaining a menu of its services, managing staff, developing and implementing policies and procedures for the center, working with organizations to reserve meeting and event space and assisting with event preparation and coordination.

Prior to joining the foundation, Tami worked for 22 years for KFMC Health Improvement Partners in Topeka as both communications/education coordinator and quality improvement consultant, where planning regional and statewide events was among her many responsibilities.

Tami has an Associate in Applied Science, specializing in office management, from Allen County Community College.

Maria handles day-to-day event management at the Sunflower Nonprofit Center, including pre-event planning, onsite logistical management during events and post-event cleanup. Previously, as a member of the event team staff, she assisted with onsite event management.

Prior to joining the foundation, Maria was a bilingual referral coordinator for GraceMed Capitol Family Clinic in Topeka, where she referred patients to specialists, particularly in pediatric developmental/behavioral health. She also managed the clinic’s Early Detection Works and Race Against Breast Cancer screening programs. Before joining GraceMed, Maria was an event coordinator assistant for Top of the Tower in Topeka, where she assisted with event coordination and catering for a variety of meetings and events.

Maria has an Associate in Addiction and Prevention Studies/Social Work from Allen County Community College.
